Biography

The Niebuhr Society is dedicated to historical, critical, and constructive study of the work of Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971) and his family and to continued scholarly engagement with the moral, political, and theological questions that were central to their life and work.

The Niebuhr Society serves these purposes through presentations and discussion at its annual meeting, dissemination of information about relevant programs and activities, and support for the collection, preservation, and publication of material related to the theological contributions of the Niebuhr family.

In keeping with the spirit of the Niebuhrs' work, the Society encourages participation by persons from a wide variety of religious backgrounds, academic disciplines, and political viewpoints and seeks to develop a program that reflects the breadth of the Niebuhrs' interests and concerns.
